The Values of the Slow Manifesto
Even though there is value in the items on the right, we value the items on the left more:
1. Bug-free software over working software
2. Coffee and snacks over boring meetings
3. Adaptable solution over customer collaboration
4. Stability and security over responding to change
5. Completed development over post-its on the skrum board
Cultural Context
This manifesto is part of the Slow Movement, a cultural initiative that since 1986 advocates for a more deliberate and thoughtful pace of life. It began when Carlo Petrini protested the opening of a McDonald’s in Rome’s Piazza di Spagna, giving rise to Slow Food.
Since then, the Slow Movement has expanded into dozens of domains: Slow Living, Slow Science, Slow Fashion, Slow Travel, Slow Thought, Slow Cinema, Slow Education…
Slow software development is our contribution to this philosophy: quality code, delivered on the right timeline, with the mental and physical health of everyone involved.
